Dear Parents and Guardians,

We recently received reports about a number of Tik Tok photo/posts that have been circulating in schools in our area and around the country and are said to be associated with school shootings or a school shooting day.

Please know that we have referred this information to the Washington County Sheriff as well as to the NYS Police and have noted the increase in these types of postings since the Oxford High School tragedy. At this time, law enforcement officials have indicated that there are no specific threats to any local school, including the Whitehall Central School District. We will continue to work with both agencies on any next steps that they advise us to take.

As a district, we would encourage you to speak with your children about the importance of sharing any information that they might have about any potential threats to our students, staff or schools; any concerning behaviors being displayed by their friends and classmates; or about anything that "just doesn't seem right" about what they are seeing in their school. The Whitehall Central School District is committed to ensuring the safety of everyone entering the building. Should you receive any information about this that you believe requires immediate action, please call 911 to report it. If you have information that you believe we should be aware of, please contact your child's building principal or me as soon as possible. In the meantime, we will continue to keep you updated with any information that we receive.

Given the incident today coupled with the information that is being posted to Tik Tok, proactively the Sheriff's office will be providing additional patrols at the school tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Patrick Dee
Superintendent of Schools
