High Risk Winter Athletics

Good afternoon,

Just a short time ago, Washington County Public Health approved school districts, in coordination with their Medical Directors to move forward with "High Risk" athletics. To be able to move forward the following criteria must be met: A "sport specific" preparedness plan had to be developed and supported by the district Medical Director, for the athlete to participate each parent will be required to sign an "informed consent" document, the athlete must have medical clearance from their medical doctor or school Medical Director, parents must agree to fully cooperate with Contact Tracing and adhere to quarantine orders and the district must provide both a telephone number and email address to which parents can report to the school violations of COVID protocol.

I am very pleased to share that our district has received approval from our medical director to participate in both Boys and Girls Varsity and Junior Varsity Basketball. Our Athletic Director Mr. Redmond along with the other Basketball Coaches will be reaching out to families to begin the process of collecting the necessary paperwork and working with the Nurse to obtain the necessary medical releases. This will be a very rapid process and I am sorry for this inconvenience however, we are doing all that we can to provide our athletes the greatest number of days of competition as possible.

Please understand that wrestling has not been given the approval by our medical director to move forward. While this is disheartening to some, this determination is being made as the risk of COVID transmission is simply too great medically.

We will continue to share additional information as we have it in regard not only to Winter Athletics, but also regarding the "Fall 2" and Spring athletic seasons.

Best,
Patrick Dee
Superintendent of Schools
