Message From Superintendent Dee

January 30, 2023

Dear Whitehall Families & Community,

Based on a concern brought to our attention this morning regarding comments allegedly made by a high school student, the Washington County Sheriff’s Department was contacted. While the information that was shared with the school administration did not indicate a threat to the school or to our student body, the district proactively reached out to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office for support.

Out of an abundance of caution, the student reported to have made comments was brought to the office and the student's backpack was checked. After speaking with several students, at approximately 12:30 p.m. this afternoon, the police determined the concerns that had been  brought to the school’s attention were unfounded, and the comments allegedly made by the student could not be verified by any specific individual.

Student safety continues to be a top priority for the Whitehall Central School District, and we  strongly encourage individuals who have a concern regarding student safety now or in the  future, to immediately reach out to school administration or local law enforcement. Working  together and communicating directly with the school or law enforcement is the best way to aid in ensuring the safety of our students and the community.

Sincerely,

Patrick Dee
Superintendent of Schools
