Elementary Students Learn About Snow Plow Safety

On Tuesday, December 13, 2022, our elementary students learned about snow plow safety and how to have fun in the snow while staying safe during the winter months.

The students were visited in a collaborative effort which included Town of Whitehall Highway Superintendent Louis Pratt; Washington County Senior Safety Officer Phil Spiezio; Marc Leech of the Washington County Highway Department, and Tom Gray of the Cambridge Department of Public Works.

The students learned about proper outerwear for frigid temperatures, why building snow forts is not safe, and the importance of staying away from the roads when the snow plows are approaching, and vehicles could slide due to the snow and ice.

Prior to the visit, each grade level adopted a snow plow or town vehicle. The students used their imaginations to name them and the vehicles can be identified by signage.

The names are:

Kindergarten - Betty White Out
1st grade -  Snow Crusher
2nd grade - Little Elf
3rd grade - Sheldon Scooper
4th grade - Baby Yoda
5th grade - Santa's Lost Sleigh
6th grade - Mr. Shovel

HAVE FUN & BE SAFE!
