Jr./Sr. High School Library Receives $20,000 Grant From Dollar General

On Tuesday, January 25, 2022, Whitehall Central School District was presented a check in the amount of $20,000 as Dollar General’s “Beyond Words” grant recipient.

“Beyond Words” is a disaster relief fund for public school libraries in Dollar General store communities. Grants are awarded to public school libraries that have incurred substantial damage or hardship due to a natural disaster, fire, or an act recognized by the federal government as terrorism. The jr./sr. high school library lost its entire collection of books when an intense storm stalled over Whitehall on August 24, 2020.

Prior to the check presentation, Jr./Sr. High School Principal Ethan Burgess explained to Dollar General management the process for selecting new books, which is student-driven in collaboration with the WSWHE BOCES school services.

Superintendent of Schools Patrick Dee said, "We are grateful to be selected to receive this funding from Dollar General. We appreciate their support of our students and community."
